Listen to the Podcast Interview

USA Today said that after proposing an $18 million cut to the Special Olympics program, United States Secretary of Education, Betsy Devos, has reversed her course. President Trump also backed off cutting the funding, saying, “I just told my people I want to fund the Special Olympics.”

The Special Olympics has been around since 1968. Beginning as a “backyard summer camp,” it has exponentially grown into the inspirational movement it is today. Losing a program with as much heart and determination as the Special Olympics would have been a significant loss to America. Although it hasn’t been expressly stated that the recent reversal of plans was due to the outrage expressed by so many, it’s not a far leap to assume that the outcry from so many voices had, at least, a small part in the decision.

Your voice matters. This is just one example of what advocates can do. Your child or children deserve to have someone fighting alongside them in issues that have an impact on their lives. You can make a difference. Don’t leave it to everyone else when you can make the first step.
